Water Authority – Cayman is pleased to announce that it will facilitate the return of renowned geologist Dr Brian Jones to the Cayman Islands to host Geology Education Week after a 4-year hiatus.
Scheduled to take place from Monday, 24 October, to Friday, 28 October, the week-long event will feature geology lessons for students at local high schools and a professional development course for local educators that includes a field trip to sites of geological significance in Grand Cayman.
Dr Brian Jones, Professor of Geology at the University of Alberta, Canada, will lead the week-long series of events. Water Authority Water Resources Engineer Hendrik-Jan van Genderen explained that Dr Jones brings a wealth of knowledge and local experience to the programme.
“Not only is Dr Jones a world-renowned geologist, his career includes more than 35 years of work right here in the Cayman Islands,” he said. “We are very pleased that Dr Jones will be able to lead this year’s programme of events, and the level of interest from local schools and educators is greater than ever before.”
Although registration for the courses offered as part of Geology Education Week is restricted to local high school students and educators, the public will also have the opportunity to engage with the subject matter through the Authority’s social media accounts throughout the week.
